Construction Clean-Up Best Practices

Construction Clean-Up Best Practices

Every structure, at some point in time, will require some sort of renovation. Construction that is done on-site necessitates clean-up both during and after the project. The first thing that has to be done is to clear away any heavy objects and debris. After that, every surface needs to be meticulously cleaned because of the drywall dust. As part of this operation, the window frames, light fixtures, walls, and floors that are difficult to access will be cleaned. Let’s look at some of the most effective methods for building site cleanup.

Channels of Communication

The general contractor and the cleaning team must have open lines of communication with one another. Because there is a good chance that the project won’t begin precisely when it is supposed to, the builder needs to communicate with the cleanup crew regarding when they may begin the post-construction cleanup. Additionally, the general contractor can provide the cleaning personnel with instructions regarding particular care requirements. For instance, grout creates a haze throughout the construction process, which necessitates the use of an acidic cleaning. In addition, the janitorial staff of the building will require information regarding the components used in the structure’s construction. The maintenance requirements for different materials, such as hardwood, ceramic tile, and luxury vinyl tile, can vary greatly.

Maintenance of Safety

The construction site cleaning staff needs specialized training on-site to avoid safety issues. Workers are required to acquire the right safety training before beginning any job that could potentially be hazardous. On the construction site, staff personnel are required to be able to recognize and safely manage any potential dangers that may arise. OSHA, which stands for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the United States, is in charge of setting standards and providing training.

Employee well-being is also influenced by the culture of the company. Make ensuring people’s safety your main priority. Supervisors can set a good example for their employees by strictly adhering to all safety laws. It is of the utmost importance to have a method for reporting and handling any potential threats that may be present in the workplace.

Use of Personal Protective Equipment

Cleaning up after construction has its own set of hazards to workers. Teams responsible for cleaning should have the proper PPE and be properly educated (PPE). Workers should be shielded from head to toe by personal protective equipment.

Possible risks and safety precautions are outlined below.

  • Toes – Construction debris such as nails can be dangerous during cleanup. Members of the cleaning team should wear shoes or boots with a rubber soles.
  • Cleaning supplies can cause skin irritation if used for an extended period, especially on the hands. It’s important to always use gloves while dealing with chemicals.
  • Lungs – Silica from concrete and drywall dust are two examples of indoor air pollution that can be generated during the construction process. When cleaning up in the area, be sure to wear a face mask and a respirator. We should think about using masks to avoid inhaling dust particles.
  • Protecting Your Eyes and Ears During Construction Workers may need to wear safety glasses and earplugs.
  • It’s important to keep a firm grasp on everything, especially during remodeling and construction, because loose fixtures and other debris can collapse at any time. Wearing hard helmets is mandatory safety gear on any active construction job.

To get your firm back up and running after a construction project, you must hire a service that possesses both the knowledge and the expertise necessary to complete the post-construction cleanup. If you require their services for a medical facility, a secure facility, a government building, or a commercial enterprise, their crew will be prepared to complete the task at hand.

How are stadiums cleaned?

How are stadiums cleaned?

These majestic pieces attesting to human progress in the social scheme are not fun and games in their cleaning. Fans leave the stadium after the game to rejoice or lament their team’s triumph, but they don’t clean up. Cleaners must sterilize and disinfect the stadium before the next game. Stadium cleaning is tough. It’s a massive job that can take 8 to 10 hours, depending on the stadium’s size, the number of fans, and the staff. The team must follow proper stadium cleaning protocols.

The coach wants a clean game, instructions:-

Cleaning a stadium

A trashy stadium equals trashy gaming

Getting rid of the mound of trash left behind by fans is the first order of business while cleaning a stadium. As a disclaimer, this will make the opponents call you trashy. Workers have to deal with garbage cans that are overflowing as well as the drink cups, food wrappers, and half-eaten meals that have been strewn about the stadium and pushed under the seats. It would take ages to pick it up by hand, so the workers use blowers, much like a leaf blower. They begin at the top and work their way down, blowing the trash into mounds that can be easily collected by a large industrial sweeper.

Viruses will not make your game viral

After thousands of fans leave, the seats and pathways are contaminated with filth and germs that they brought in with them. And then there’s the sticky mess that sugary liquids and food spills make. Workers use a power washer to hose off the seats because it would be impractical to wipe them all down by hand. The vacuum then removes the moisture, keeping the seats and surrounding space dry. After the chairs have been thoroughly cleaned, powerful disinfectants are used to ensure that no bacteria survive in the environment. Fans want assurance that the stadium is in the best possible condition before attending the next game, and this is especially true in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Service the Restrooms

When thousands of people visit the stadium for an event, the restrooms need to be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected afterward. The floor has to be cleaned and mopped, and the trash needs to be taken out. It is imperative that all of the sanitary fixtures, including the sinks, countertops, commodes, and urinals, be scrubbed and disinfected. The cleaners’ top priority should be disinfecting frequently touched surfaces including door handles, ADA switches, and light switches. They need to replenish the soap and paper towel dispensers, as well as the toilet paper. The issues in the players’ locker rooms are similar, with the inclusion of showers and changing places.

Park the trash in the bin

After each game, the parking lot must be swept and vacuumed. Trash is commonly left behind by tailgaters, and it is not uncommon for people to finish their drinks and throw away the empty cup on their way back to their vehicle. Insects and rodents may be drawn to this garbage if it is not removed quickly.

Wrap Up

Cleaning a stadium regularly is a massive undertaking that calls for powerful machinery, trained cleaning staff, and the necessary detergents to disinfect and sterilize every surface. It could be too much for the normal team to manage. Hire professionals to ensure proper stadium cleaning protocols are followed and the job is well done. All of our technicians are highly trained experts in their field. To prevent the spread of germs, they utilize electrostatic sprayers loaded with disinfectants that kill viruses and cling to surfaces.

Data Center Post-Construction Cleaning Guidelines

Data Center Post-Construction Cleaning Guidelines

You must understand that this piece does not particularly deal with wiping content from servers as is synonymous with most sham operations but rather cleaning in such environments. As soon as you have completed the construction of your data center, you start thinking about the various ways in which it may be cleaned to eliminate the possibility of serious problems. It is of utmost importance to maximize production while minimizing the amount of work expended. You do not have to be Jack to realize you need to make time to play. Having an agenda is necessary for a successful operation, but that’s if you want a successful operation.

Consider the following for apt project management of your post-construction cleaning:-

Why do you need a checklist for your project management?

You need a procedure to follow to keep any area of your data center tidy and running well. It is where a data center checklist comes in handy; such a document will serve to keep your workload manageable by serving as a reminder to perform routine maintenance tasks like dusting and clearing away debris. Upholding normal business procedures is crucial. If you do not, the slightest infiltration of dust or other debris into your data center could trigger a crisis.

How Should a Data Center Checklist Look Like?

There is not a single person whose method is precisely the same as that of another person. However, you should still make sure that your checklist includes the criteria that are listed below so that you can verify that your data center is in tip-top shape:-

Are the subfloors spotless yet?

The data center is located on the sub-floors, which are also known as raised floors. It helps prevent individuals from accidentally tripping on cables and reduces the likelihood of the cables crossing one other and becoming tangled. Subfloors may accommodate a good deal of foot traffic and assist pump cold air to avoid overheating thanks to their location below the main floor. It is highly recommended that, in addition to employing a qualified cleaning service, the floor tiles are removed and the reverse sides of the floor panels cleaned. After that, you should go through with vacuuming the area, using a static cleaner to clear the dust and other dirt around the hub and make sure that all of the dangling pieces are removed.

The Top Floors won’t clean themselves

After the elevated floor has been taken up, the tiles can be put back down. Sweep the base with a mop and anti-static wipes, and then vacuum the slates to remove dust and other particles. Due to their fragility, electronic devices require extra care when being cleaned. Keep the liquid you use to clean your data center to a minimum.

Smooth surfaces make smooth processes

Do not just stop at the floors when you have completed cleaning. Use anti-static wipes on every surface. All removed tape should be reapplied to its original locations. Following these simple procedures, you may establish a regular maintenance schedule for your whole data center. After the data center has been built, regular commercial cleaning services should be used at least once a year.

Final Word

It is essential to look for a company with employees that have received training in cleaning data rooms under ISO 14644-1 2015 Class 8. It puts you in a position to derive the best possible benefit from the process while still receiving the necessary cleaning attention. At the risk of throwing caution to the wind the aforementioned information is supported by data from clean centers.

Checklist for Comprehensive Post-Construction Cleaning and Scope of Services

Checklist for Comprehensive Post-Construction Cleaning and Scope of Services

Before moving in furniture, office equipment, decor, or the instruments that may be used for the inhabited businesses or commercial setting, the entire building must be cleaned after construction is complete, regardless of the size of the structure. You don’t actually believe you would move in that way, do you? Many people have the misconception that all that is required to clean up a construction site is a quick pass with a brush. Well they are wrong. Still, here is when you should give everything a thorough scrub if not your attention.

Scope of Work

Since there is only the building itself to clean, many people may assume that cleaning up after construction is a breeze. However, before moving in furniture and other necessary equipment, a complete cleaning of the entire building is essential. In general, you should dust everything and clean the walls, ceiling, and light fixtures. Similar considerations should be given to the baseboards, window and door casings, and other trim throughout the house. It’s also important to scrub the floors. Carpets should be vacuumed and, if necessary, professionally cleaned. It is also important to clean and shine any hard flooring. Cleaning the building’s exterior is an important step in getting it ready for the arrival of furnishings and other equipment.

Commercial Restroom cleaning procedure

There will always be a location for people to use the restroom, regardless of whether the building is intended for residential or commercial use. It is necessary to clean and polish the flooring and walls in the bathroom, as well as remove any dust and dirt that may have accumulated there. In addition to the sinks, bathtubs, and toilets, the mirror in the bathroom needs to be cleaned as well. However, it is imperative that the facilities have the basics like toilet paper and paper towels available for use by patrons. The soap dispensers ought to have a healthy supply of soap, and the rest of the supplies ought to be in good order as well.

Office Kitchen and Break-room Cleaning

In any commercial establishment that provides services to the general public, the kitchens and break rooms should be held to the same stringent standards of thorough cleanliness, attention to sanitation, and stocking. The kitchen and the dining room both share the same characteristics.

Custom Deep Cleaning Services

Depending on the sort of structure that has been recently erected, different surface materials may be used, as well as different cleaning procedures may be required. Employing the services of a specialized cleaning company, on the other hand, is the only way to ensure that the project will be finished to satisfaction. Before stocking the building with necessary equipment for the enterprise, it is absolutely necessary to give it a thorough cleaning. In addition to picking an experienced post-construction cleaning service, look for a janitorial cleaning service that can be hired on an ongoing basis, or find a company that can handle both types of cleaning. You should not worry because the unique requirements of your building and those of your company will be met by the cleaning service you hire.

Accountability in the form of analysis of work is achieved through the detailed coverage of services provided during the cleaning process and the decomposition of occurrences into procedures.

Why is Post-construction cleaning important?

Why is Post-construction cleaning important

Before, during, and after construction, only professionals should clean the site. Only expert cleaning service providers can remove building waste like nails and screws, tiles and wood, cigarette butts and other garbage, dust, and dirt from every surface.

Post-construction cleaning is essential since you cannot live or operate a business in a filthy environment. Hiring construction cleaning services saves you time, effort, and energy that you could be using to unpack and arrange your possessions.

1.     Safety

Sites under construction or undergoing restoration may be hazardous. Professional cleaners are outfitted with the right boots, helmets, and other safety equipment so they can work efficiently while being safe. Avoiding slips, falls, rough edges, and sharp nails is essential. Construction site cleaning businesses with experience have the equipment, supplies, and tools required to efficiently gather trash and waste.

Newly completed projects produce a lot of dust, which, if not properly cleaned up, might lead to respiratory issues. The strong chemicals used to clean floors, carpets, tiles, and other surfaces can potentially cause health problems if the proper safety measures aren’t performed. Allow skilled and knowledgeable cleaners to handle the cleaning.

2.     Time-Saving

Whether the construction was residential, commercial, or industrial, move in as quickly as possible. Construction can disrupt your home or business, so attempt to minimize disruptions. Working with experts speeds up the cleaning process so you can resume normal activities.

During or after construction, site cleaning is a complicated task that should be done by professionals. The disposal of construction waste, from nails and screws to mounds of tiles and lumber to cigarette butts and other trash, requires the knowledge of skilled cleaners.

3.     Cost Efficient

Hiring another contractor when you have a restricted budget may seem counterproductive. Professional cleaning services cost more, but their thoroughness and efficiency are worth it. A construction site cleanup costs a portion of the total project cost. Cleaners work quickly.

A cleaning contractor’s fee depends on the job’s size, resources needed, and location or distance of construction trash hauling. You still save money on cleaning materials, gear, supplies, and equipment, as well as the difficulty of finding imaginative ways to reach every nook and cranny, the correct cleaning materials, and waste disposal places.

4.     Hidden Mess

Since you haven’t had any formal training in cleaning and lack experience clearing construction sites of clutter, you probably won’t know where to look for problems or how to clear them once you do. Clearing away dust and grime from areas where it can be easily seen is a simple task. However, if you don’t pay attention to all the obscure corners, you could miss a lot of dirt.

Expert construction site cleaners will know exactly what to use on each surface, and will have access to everything they need to get rid of any stains that may have occurred. The experts will make sure that everything is taken care of.

5.     Proper waste disposal

The varied nature of construction site trash can make it challenging to manage without training and experience. Professional cleaners, on the other hand, are well-versed in the proper disposal of all manner of trash, whether it’s destined for recycling or the landfill, and can guarantee that it will be dealt with in accordance with all applicable laws and ordinances.

The goal is to have the best-looking result, whether it is a new construction or a rehabilitation. Construction cleanup removes dirt, debris, and waste from the site and gives it a polished appearance. Professional construction cleaning services can help you save time, money, and energy while also increasing safety. Every construction project, whether new or restored, strives to be the best it can be. Before completing a room, dust, grime, and garbage from construction must be cleared. A skilled construction cleaning service can help you save time, money, and effort while also improving site security.

3 Phases of Post-Construction Cleaning

3 Phases of Post-Construction Cleaning

The region becomes progressively polluted with dirt, dust, and other particles as Construction activities progresses. Because of the notorious filthiness of building sites, many homeowners prefer to temporarily relocate while their houses are being restored. Let’s be honest: they’re not pros, are they? This is logical given the nature of the firm and the constant foot traffic. If staff cleaned as they worked, the contract timeframe would be doubled. Rather, they are planning a cleaning when the project is completed. The cleansing processes and their various faces;

Phase one: Rough Cleaning

The next phase is to install the building’s plumbing and electrical systems after the building’s framework has been established. The bigger objects, such as garbage, waste, residual materials, and other things that can’t be vacuumed up, are now the first things to be eliminated. The vital component in the procedure is this step. When we are through, we will clean and vacuum the area briefly. While this process does not entail cleaning the glass or the wood, stickers on windows and doors are also removed at this time.

Construction Cleaning

Phase two: Light Cleaning

This step of the post-construction cleaning process involves the most time and effort, as well as the most cleaning supplies and equipment, in comparison to the other two phases. Particular attention is paid to the maintenance of rooms that provide obvious functions, such as kitchens and baths. Sinks, toilets, windows, and cabinets are among the installed components that receive an in-depth cleaning here. Also cleaned are the windows. Customers employ cleaners so they don’t have to perform the task themselves at this time, which is one reason why they do it.

When Clients choose Progressive Cleaning, you can feel confident that not only these areas, but also the vast majority of the interior surfaces, including the air ducts, will be given the utmost attention to detail during the cleaning process. This is something that you can be sure of when you make your selection. During this phase, we also take care of cleaning up the places where the stickers were previously placed. This involves removing any residue left behind by the stickers. These kinds of sites include, amongst other things, glass portions, windows, doors, and walls. When we’ve finished with this part of the process, we’ll be in a lot better position to start taking on customers.

Phase three: Final Cleaning

Last but not least is the process known as Final Cleaning or Touch-Up Cleaning. Since dust and filth may continue to settle for a while after the second phase, the cleaning staff schedules this to occur many days later. Cleaning up the remaining smudges, fingerprints, and other defects from the previously cleaned regions is the fastest and shortest part of the process.

When construction is finished, the cleanup process that follows can take several days’ worth of hard work to complete. For a construction company with a lot of other projects going on, this is not a simple task to supervise. Building personnel already have enough on their plates without having to worry about having to sanitize the work site once it has been completed. As a result, it is strongly suggested to use the services of knowledgeable cleaners, whether done through the construction contractor or on an independent basis.

Some clients may be tempted to forego hiring professional cleaners in favor of doing it themselves if the construction contractor does not provide additional cleaning services. If customers are in charge of cleaning instead of experts, they can forget about the building’s interior and any other secret areas that the general public has no awareness about. The potential danger to the health and safety of the building’s occupants makes this unacceptable.

Post-construction cleaning is time-consuming, as the three steps show. No normal construction staff could handle this. Professional cleaners are trained and equipped to execute a thorough service. On a building site, it’s best to be cautious when risk is present.

Best Vacuums for Post-Construction Cleaning

Best Vacuums for Post-Construction Cleaning

You have undoubtedly been through enough renovations to know how nasty they can get, which is why you are probably considering purchasing a vacuum cleaner that is specifically made to deal with builder’s dust. If you haven’t already, you should really get on that.

It’s probable that your standard vacuum cleaner won’t be able to manage the fine dust that goes into every crack and crevice, as well as the larger detritus like rubble and offcuts that can be left behind when you renovate your home or have builders come in.

The most effective builders’ dust vacuums may also contain wet features, which enable you to deal with any spills or drainage difficulties that may develop during a rebuild without having to resort to a separate appliance. This saves you time and money over having to purchase a second appliance.

Post-Construction Cleaning

It is crucial to highlight that the majority of these vacuums are also well-suited to domestic life once the restoration is complete. This makes this investment helpful not only for getting through the chaos of building but also for the future.

1.      Henry HVR160 Vacuum Cleaner

Henry is a well-known brand of vacuum cleaners, and he is also more than just a style symbol; he is a reliable and straightforward appliance, perfect for a construction or remodeling site. You can easily suck up even the largest bits of garbage thanks to the powerful suction and variety of attachments.

The HVR160 is a more portable model that weighs less than the other Henry vacuums while maintaining the same suction power and 10-meter cord. The Henry HVR200-11 vacuum cleaner, for example, has a larger dust bag than this one does at 8 liters, but the capacity of this one at 6 liters is more than adequate for most homes. In case you run out, grab some extra dust bags.

2.      Karcher WD4 Wet & Dry Vacuum Cleaner

Karcher’s WD4 vacuum is made to clean up dust, heavy rubble, and spills that a regular household vacuum wouldn’t be able to pick up. It’s a great cleaner to have on hand at your construction site because of the wide range of attachments it offers and the fact that they can be conveniently kept on the vacuum itself.

The Karcher WD4 boasts a big 20-liter capacity and a clever filter system that lets you switch between wet and dry modes without having to change bags, unlike many other vacuums.

This model’s cord is shorter than average at 5 meters, and its larger size makes it more difficult to store, but it’s ideal for use in a garage or similar space.

3.      Vacmaster Wet and Dry Vacuum Cleaner 20L

This Vacmaster wet/dry vacuum is one of the best for builders’ dust. It’s a powerful and sturdy vacuum that can compete with Henry and the others on this list, plus it has some cool extra features.

The blower function can be used to blow leaves and pump up air mattresses – a pleasant feature, but not essential for your project. We think all DIY vacuums should have a power switch.

A power take off socket is where you can plug a power tool (such as a mitre saw or drill) to switch on the vacuum cleaner. Connect it to reduce dust, sawdust, and debris and avoid a costly cleanup.

It’s no easy effort to clean up after a major do-it-yourself project or home remodeling. It’s important to bring things back to normal as quickly as possible so you don’t have to worry about coming home to a dusty, dirty construction zone. With the help of a high-quality vacuum, you can conquer this obstacle. Purchase of either of the brands recommended will ensure your experience does not suck!

After Construction Cleaning: What Goes on After Your Construction Project

after construction cleaning

When you start cutting into drywall, ripping up floors, and pulling out old materials, then your construction project can get really dusty very quickly. It can feel like every surface in the building is covered in varying layers of dust and debris.

Once you’re done with your project, the first thing you want to do is break out the broom and dustpan to clean up some of the mess. But getting into all the nooks and crannies isn’t as easy as it seems. You may find dust lurking in corners for months after completing a construction project.

That’s why we pulled together these helpful tips for after construction cleaning to ensure a clean space after your most recent project.

Remove Construction Debris

Once a construction job is complete, you’re bound to find items littered around the worksite. You will need to pick up items like water bottles and burger wrappers as well as dispose of construction materials properly like paint and vanishes.

Wash the Walls

One of the items on your post construction cleaning checklist should be washing the walls. It’s important that you realize that even if your walls look clean, they are likely coated in a layer of dust. By washing your walls, the whole room will have a much more fresh feel.

Wipe Debris from Surfaces

If you’ve been asking yourself how long does it take for dust to settle, then you most likely need to wait a little longer before wiping the surfaces around your construction project. Generally, twenty-four hours should be long enough for even the finest particles of dust to get out of the air.

Vacuum and Clean Your Carpets and Upholstery

Hiring someone for cleaning services can ensure your carpets are as clean as possible. This is important because some people are allergic to dust and can be affected by construction debris.

Replace Air Filters

Dust not only settles on surfaces, but it also floats in the air. Make sure that you take the time to replace the air filters in your home or business after a construction project to ensure the air quality stays good.

Pressure Wash the Outdoors

Pressure washing the outdoors around your home or business after a construction project ensures that the dust and debris have truly gone away. Be thorough with your cleaning and opt for pressure washing.

Clean Door Frames, Baseboards, and Blinds

Lots of times door frames, baseboards, and blinds are overlooked when people are cleaning up after a construction project. Make sure you are thorough with your efforts and get into all of the hard to reach places.

The Best Way to Clean Carpets at Your Entertainment Venue

best way to clean carpets

Your big event is right around the corner. You’re ready, the event is ready, but your carpets definitely aren’t.

Your guests will be up to their knees in dirt before they’re halfway through the door!

But what is the best way to clean carpets so that your guests can practically eat their dinner off them?

Grab your tools and read on.

The Right Tools for the Job

A regular household vacuum cleaner probably isn’t going to cut it for your entertainment venue.

With all the foot traffic you’re expecting you will need to wash the carpets as well, which rules out commercial-grade vacuum cleaners.

The alternative then is buying or renting an industrial cleaner, although these can be extremely pricey.

In addition to a vacuum, you will need to wash the carpets and that requires cleaning products. These include pre-treatment, detergents and de-odorizing chemicals to ensure the long-term health of your carpets.

How Much is Too Much?

It’s easy to overestimate the materials you will need to clean a large surface area. This is never truer than when it comes time to add water.

While it might seem sensible to remove those stubborn stains with a good soaking, over-watering a carpet can cause more harm than good. This might result in discoloration, shrinkage, or worse, carpet mold.

The same is true of carpet shampoo and cleaning chemicals. Too much and you risk a build-up of soap. Not enough and those tough stains simply won’t come out.

The Best Way to Clean Carpets

Much like mowing the lawn at a big sports stadium, the right technique when cleaning your carpets makes all the difference.

Cleaning & Maintenance Management (CMM) have their own advice on the right way to vacuum. They recommend prioritizing areas that often see the most foot traffic, such as funnels, transition areas, and pathways.

They estimate that it takes 17 minutes to clean about 1,000 square feet using a conventional vacuum cleaner. This means if your facility is 10,000 square feet you’re looking at over 3 hours of vacuuming. That sucks.

Hire a Professional

Ultimately the best tip might be to save yourself some elbow grease and speak to someone who knows what they’re doing.

There are many specialists out there who make a living ensuring your carpets look as good as new.

HomeAdvisor even admits in their recent article that mistakes are practically inevitable with some do-it-yourself approaches. They state that while the do-it-yourself approach is often cheaper, it is rarely as effective as professional cleaning.

A Spotless Finish

Cleaning your carpets doesn’t have to be a thankless job. In fact, by hiring a professional it doesn’t have to be a job at all.

For entertainment venues big and small, leave it to someone who knows the best way to clean carpets.

Does your entertainment venue or workspace need a clean? Need a professional to get the job done right?

How to Clean Upholstery on Cinema Seating

How to clean upholstery

Lights, camera…spilling?

The movie theater is a magical place. However, there’s nothing magical about how dirty and sticky it can get.

And the cinema seats get the worst of it. This leaves owners wondering just how to clean upholstery.

Whether you own a theater or just have cinema seats in your home theater, keep reading to discover our awesome cleaning tips!

Suck It Up

When you have messy seats, you’re probably reaching for the soap first. Instead, you should reach for the vacuum.

A lot of the dirt, hair, and other things on your seats are just on the surface. If you immediately start washing, you might just end up pushing the dirt in or around.

Vacuuming first will help clean up anything on the surface. And for really dirty seats, you’ll notice an almost immediate improvement.

A Different Kind of Soda

For cinema seats, soda spills are one of the biggest problems. But a great solution comes from a different kind of “soda.”

It turns out bicarbonate of soda is one of the best ways to clean upholstery. Here’s how you do it.

After you first vacuum your seats, sprinkle bicarbonate of soda over all of the affected areas. You’ll need to let it sit and do its magic for about 30 minutes.

Now, you’ll need to vacuum the surface once more to clean the bicarbonate of soda. And that’s it!

Why does this method of cleaning upholstery work so well? First, it neutralizes any lingering odors in the seat. Then it effectively exfoliates the seat–great for cleaning sticky messes.

Check the Warnings

There are other cleaning methods that are simple, including trying soap and water. Before you do that, be sure to check the label of your seats.

Not all upholstery is exactly the same. Your manufacturer may have some advice on what to use (and what not to use).

It takes almost no time at all to double check the label. And this will give you peace of mind that you won’t accidentally end up ruining the seat.

Steam Cleaning

We saved our favorite solution for last. Here it is: you need to steam clean those seats!

Unless the label warning says otherwise, you start by putting hydrogen peroxide over the dirty areas. After at least ten minutes, you can bust out the steam cleaner.

Part of what makes these cleaners so good is that many of them have adjustable heads. That means you can find the kind of cloth and brush that is best for your exact fabric.

The rest is simple. Scrub all the affected areas and then simply let your chairs dry. Afterward, they’ll look, feel, and smell as good as new!

How to Clean Upholstery: The Bottom Line

Now you know more about how to clean upholstery on your own. But what if you need a little help?

At CityScape Solutions, we specialize in cleaning cinema seats and movie theaters. Whether you need help cleaning an entire cinema or just a “man cave,” you should contact us today!
